KNOLLYN’S TOP 3

The HOVER SOCCER BALL is great for some indoor fun when the kids need to work off some energy. This ball hovers over the floor and has a styrofoam cushion around it, so your don’t have to worry about anything getting broken!

CODENAMES: DISNEY EDITION is fun for our whole family. Our teams have been one parent & one kid, and the adults started with giving the clues so the kids could learn how to play. They caught on quick and give some pretty clever clues.

The ROLLER COASTER CHALLENGE has been hours of fun for the boys! It’s great for critical thinking, and they’ve done a great job teaming up to complete each roller coaster.

FINN’S TOP 3

COLOR BRAIN: DISNEY EDITION has been super fun. It’s simple, and we’ve all won a couple of games - I actually think the kids might be better than we are! They have such good memories, and it’s been fun talking about movies.

Finn just got this MAGNETIC DART BOARD for his birthday, and it’s been a hit! We still have to hang it on the wall, but the boys have had fun playing with it leaning on the ground for now. It’s also a great way for them to practice math.

FLASH is a quick-paced game that we’ve been loving! It’s simple enough for young kids to play, and fun enough to have the kids asking to play one more game!

Top 5 Sleep Solutions

LET’S BE REAL

Whether you’re a stay at home mama or a #bossbabe at the office, we all need our rest!

We know what we’re supposed to do, right? Have a normal sleep routine including a consistent bedtime and at least 8 hours of sleep each night. No phones, tablets, or screens of any kind within a couple hours of bedtime.

Let’s be real though - it can be TOUGH sticking to the things we know are best! Whether we just need an hour to ourselves to scroll social media or catch up on our favorite NOT kid-friendly show or to finish a project that we didn’t get all the way through at work, sleep schedules and no screens before bedtime aren’t always realistic for today’s modern woman.

Here are 5 things that you can easily work into your schedule that can help you to catch some Zs in today’s busy world.

Young Living has two supplements that we use occasionally for sleep: Sleep Essence and ImmuPro. Young Living takes great care in choosing the natural ingredients used in their supplements and these are both infused with essential oils, adding an extra layer of support for our bodies and minds.

SleepEssence and ImmuPro both contain melatonin, which helps to promote sleep. The big difference between SleepEssence and ImmuPro is that ImmuPro includes ingredients that also help to support the immune system. We don’t take these supplements every night - we take them when we’re traveling and need to get to bed early/want to overcome jet lag or if we have to wake up earlier for a special occasion since I’m a night owl!

RELAXING BATH SALTS

Sometimes, we just need to unwind after a long day. Try one of these relaxing bath salt recipes to make your worries melt away before bedtime. Mix ingredients and let bath salts sit for at least a couple of hours before using. You can also make a large batch and use over a week or month. Remember to drink plenty of water before, during, and after your bath.

Epsom Salt Base:

  • 1/2 cup unscented Epsom salt

  • 1/8 cup baking soda

Essential Oil Combinations (5 - 10 drops total)

  • Lavender + Eucalyptus Globulus (smells like a spa)

We absolutely love rollers in our family! They’re a great way to apply oils and take them on the go. We usually bring our diffuser with us when we travel, but if you don’t have your diffuser with you, a roller can be amazing for falling asleep.

Sweet Dreams Roller: Add 20 drops Lavender and 10 drops Cedarwood to a 10 mL roller bottle. Top off with your favorite carrier oil (we love Young Living’s V-6 Vegetable Oil Complex). Roll on the bottoms of your feet and over your inner wrists before laying down to go to bed. Simple, right?

Simple DIY Elderberry Syrup

Everyone’s been talking about elderberry syrup, so I had to try it myself! It’s Back to School season, so the more wellness tools we have, the better. As a mama, I’ll take any immune support I can.

WHY ELDERBERRIES?

First off, I’m not a doctor. But, a quick internet search makes it easy to understand why so many people are raving about elderberries! Turns out elderberries are packed with antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals that may help to strengthen your immune system, lower your blood sugar, promote healthy digestion, reduce wrinkles, and more. They contain vitamins A, B, and C and complex sugars that support and stimulate the immune system. They may also help to avoid minor illnesses and shorten the duration if you were to get one.

ELDERBERRY SYRUP

Buying quality elderberry syrup can add up quick, so I decided to try my hand at making my own with some friends. We had so much fun even though we had a couple mishaps! The good thing is that even if you make a mistake, you can still wind up with some delicious syrup.

It might be best known for its wellness benefits, but if you wanted to add the syrup to some sparkling water or to flavor your favorite drink, I would totally understand! When I got together with friends to make it, we also talked about how amazing it would taste drizzled over pancakes! I don’t think anyone would have an issue with adding some immune support to their pancakes, right?

Ready to add another tool to your wellness cabinet?

HERE’S HOW

INGREDIENTS

  • 2/3 cup elderberries

  • 3 cups water

  • 1 cup local raw honey (has antiviral and antibacterial properties)

  • 8 oz. glass bottle

  • Essential oils (check out some options below)

ESSENTIAL OILS
add your faves to your syrup (I like a drop of each per batch)

  • Thieves Vitality: blend of Clove, Lemon, Cinnamon Bark, Eucalyptus Radiata, and Rosemary that is pretty dang powerful + an amazing for immune support

  • Clove Vitality: tons of antioxidants

  • Nutmeg Vitality: smells and tastes amazing; powerful adrenal support

  • Ginger Vitality: stimulates and regulates digestion aka supports the gut , where over 90% of the immune system can be found

  • Orange Vitality: contains the naturally occurring constituent limonene; supports healthy digestion

  • Frankincense Vitality: overall wellness bringer; google it

STOVETOP RECIPE

  1. Add water and elderberries to a medium saucepan (be sure to remove all stems).

  2. Bring to a boil.

  3. Cover and reduce heat. Simmer for about 45 minutes or until the liquid is reduced by half. If you’re making a larger batch, you will need to adjust the time accordingly.

  4. While your berries simmer, mix your Vitality oils into your honey.

  5. When the berries are reduced to a syrup (by half), remove from heat.

  6. Once they have cooled, mash the berries and pour through a fine mesh strainer into a bowl.

  7. Discard the berries.

  8. When no longer hot, stir in your honey/essential oils.

  9. Store in two 8 oz. airtight containers in the fridge.

INSTANT POT RECIPE

Add water and elderberries to a medium saucepan (be sure to remove all stems).

  1. Place water and elderberries in the Instant Pot.

  2. Choose manual pressure for 7-10 minutes.

  3. While your berries cook, mix your Vitality oils into your honey.

  4. Quick Release pressure.

  5. Strain into a bowl with a mesh strainer, and press berries to release all juices.

  6. Discard the berries.

  7. When no longer hot, stir in your honey/essential oils.

  8. Store in two 8 oz. airtight containers in the fridge.

FAQs

How do I use elderberry syrup?
Depending on where you look, you’ll find a variety of answers. The most common recommendation is for adults to have 1 Tbsp each day or every few days and hourly at the onset of something and for kids to have 1 tsp daily or every few days and hourly at the onset of something.

Can I eat raw elderberries?
Do not eat raw elderberries as they can be poisonous. The stems, leaves, and uncooked seeds are toxic and should NOT be eaten. Cooking the berries makes the seeds safe for consumption.

Is elderberry syrup safe for babies?
Since this recipe includes honey, it is not recommended for children younger than one.

How long does the syrup last?
It can last up to 6 months in the fridge, but ours will be gone before that!

Playing with Oils

We love games in our house. They’re fun and help to pass the time when it feels like the day is dragging on!

We also love oils. They help us to feel in control of our emotions, and when you’ve got two competitive little boys (almost 5 and almost 7 years old), they sure are useful when you’re playing a game!

Here are some of our favorite games and diffuser blends to go with them!

Busytown, Protect the Pridelands, and Eye Found It are some of our favorite games because you play them as a team! You work together to beat the game, so there’s no crying about who won and who lost #momwin.

We love to diffuse our “Skittles” diffuser combo when playing team games because it smells just like Skittles and has the added benefit of boosting our moods with all of these citrus oils! We do a drop of each oil in the diffuser (you can also add a drop of Lemon).

Snappy Dressers and Blink are two fast-paced games that keep our minds sharp! Each card has one thing in common with every other card, and it’s a race to see who can find it first and discard all of their cards. I always deal myself extra cards to try to keep it fair (and challenging for me).

Our favorite diffuser blend for these games is GeneYus and Citrus Fresh. GeneYus is formulated specifically for kids ages 2-12, and we love it for concentration. Citrus Fresh is one of our favorite oils to diffuse for creativity or thinking on the spot, and we love how the citrus balances the earthy scent of GeneYus. Try 2 drops of each in the diffuser!

These last four games can cause some tantrums, so we like to diffuse Thieves and Joy while playing them. We call Joy our “Tantrum Tamer” because no matter what mood the kids are in, when we diffuse Joy, they can’t help but smile. Joy if filled with floral notes, so we like to add Thieves for a spicy/citrus combination to the floral. Guess Who is a classic, and the boys love it. Finn still gets confused sometimes about which people to put down based on his question, but we make it work. The boys’ Aunt Aimee got them Enchanted Forest this Christmas, and it’s become a favorite of theirs! It’s like a board game version of a treasure hunt that incorporates 12 different fairy tales. And you can’t have a game night without some Memory! We have about 15 different Memory games, and it’s safe to say that the kids beat me at all of them #mombrain! I especially love the Memory Match card game because you can use it to teach the kids about essential oils and since it’s a deck of cards, it’s great for on the go!
