Not all essential oils are created equally. Young Living will never compromise their oils by adding synthetics, contaminants, or cheap fillers, or by using unethical production practices. Young Living Chief Supply Officer, Lauren Walker, guides the process of sourcing products from carefully vetted corporate-owned farms, partner farms, and Seed to Seal-certified suppliers and testing them extensively (more about the farms to come in a later post). If YL’s exhaustive tests show that a product doesn’t meet Seed to Seal standards, YL rejects the batch.

SCIENCE
Science is the cornerstone of what YL does. The trained scientific staff employs cutting-edge methods to develop new products, as well as to help ensure the quality of all YL products. Both the D. Gary Young Research Institute and Quality teams, led by Chief Science Officer Dr. Michael Buch, work in state-of-the-art labs with some of the most advanced scientific equipment available.

STANDARDS
Part of YL’s stewardship is to do business responsibly — from sustainably sourcing plants, to uplifting local communities, and to complying with environmental and other laws. Chief Legal & Compliance Officer, Matthew French, oversees the Global Compliance Program, helping to ensure that Young Living offers pure product that you can feel confident is contributing to the greater good.

QUALITY IS KEY
Essential oils have become more mainstream, but it’s important to know where your oils come from, how they are distilled, and that they are tested (and retested) for purity. Young Living’s standards are rigorous and ensure that we are getting only the highest quality oils.

FARMS
One of the most amazing aspects of the Young Living organization is the approach to producing the essential oils. You already know about Seed to Seal and how this policy and commitment ensures Young Living is offering only the best to our members.

Young Living is able to do this through direct ownership of our farms as well as partnerships with farmers that are committed to the Seed to Seal philosophy. Young Living also utilizes a Seed to Seal certification process for third-party suppliers of products. All of these farmers and suppliers are committed to the techniques and standards established by D. Gary Young and the Young Living science and research teams.

Young Living farms stand apart in the essential oils industry and set the standard for planting, growing, harvesting, distilling, and producing essential oils. Every step of the process from Seed to Seal is conducted to meet the highest standards for quality. Young Living is the only essential oil company that owns farms and partners with farmers and cooperatives around the world from Africa to Asia, Australia to Europe, and in North and South America. This strategy allows the plant material to be grown in the ideal conditions and to be harvested and distilled at the peak of the growing cycles. To date, Young Living uses 20 corporate and partner farms around the world to source our essential oils.

Young Living is also the only company that invites members to visit the farms to see every step of the process, from the planting (seed) to bottling (seal), that makes the essential oils we bring into our homes. You can help plant Lavender, harvest Black Spruce and watch Melissa being distilled. No other company in the essential oils industry provides this level of transparency.
